SATELLITE REGISTRATION
If a class is held on a satellite location like Parks & Recreation locations, the registration button to the right of the course will link you to their registration page.
TOEFL
In this class, you will learn about the Test of English as a Foreign Language, and you will learn the skills and strategies you need to take the test. You will do practice exercises to help you with all parts of the test, and you will learn grammar points that are important for the test. You may only take this class if you score a 70 or higher on the placement test. There is a textbook for this class, and you will be given homework after every class meeting.
GRAMMAR
In these classes, you will review and continue to work on the grammar topics you have already studied, and you will learn new grammar topics and sentence structures. You will do many different kinds of speaking and writing exercises and activities to help you to practice all of the topics. Your teacher will correct your grammar mistakes. There is a textbook for these classes, and you will be given homework after most class meetings.
CONVERSATION
In these classes, you will practice speaking with your
classmates and the teacher about many different topics,
and sometimes you will be asked to suggest a topic. You
will also learn new vocabulary, and work on correct
pronunciation. Your teacher will correct both your
grammar and pronunciation mistakes. There is usually not
a textbook for these classes, and you will sometimes be
given homework after class meetings. Once during the
semester, you will give a presentation to your
classmates and the students in other conversation
classes.
IDIOMS
In these classes, you will learn
what idioms are and how to recognize them, and you will
learn to understand and use idioms correctly when you
speak and write. You will do many different kinds of
exercises and activities to help you to practice and you
will also work on correct pronunciation and grammar for
all the idioms you learn. There is a textbook for these
classes, and you will often be given homework after
class meetings.
LISTENING & DISCUSSION
In these classes, you will practice listening with
different kinds of materials about many different
topics. You will learn to understand the situation, and
to listen for important ideas and details. You will also
learn to think about and discuss what you hear, and you
will practice speaking with your classmates and your
teacher. You will also learn new vocabulary, and work on
correct pronunciation. Your teacher will correct both
your grammar and pronunciation mistakes. There is
usually a textbook for these classes, and you will
sometimes be given homework after class meetings.
WRITING
In these classes, you will practice writing by learning about many different topics, such as grammar, paragraph structure/organization, punctuation, and spelling. You will practice writing different types of texts, and sometimes you will share them with your classmates. Your teacher will correct mistakes relating to all the topics you will learn. There is a textbook for these classes, and you will often be given homework after class meetings.
READING
In these classes, you will practice reading with different kinds of materials about many different topics. You will learn to understand the situation, important ideas and details. You will also learn new vocabulary, and you will study parts of words and different word forms that will help your reading. You will practice to read quickly to find information. You will do exercises and discuss what you read with your classmates and your teacher. There is a textbook for these classes, and you will often be given homework after class meetings.
CULTURAL COURSES
AMERICAN CUISINE
Learn the Art of American Food/Cuisine with chef Mann. This course is designed to understand and be able to prepare great and traditional American food. The class will meet once a week for four weeks. We will cover great Southern Comfort meals, Cajun/Creole, Classic BBQ, New York/Chicago style pizza and some classic family fun recipes.
